Real vs. Fake - lessons learned
This week I had something happen i'm really not proud of. I bought a fake. Ok, believe me it was kind of an accident and I was hesitant about what I did...but I did it anyway. Lesson learned!
Here's the nitty gritty, I went on eBay and bought a purse i've been wanting for YEARS! I mean I've combed the stores, waited on a wait list, I've stalked multiple sites for this one particular bag. It's a Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis cross body bag, and i've been on the hunt. It's truly frivolous I know, it's just a hand bag, but i've worked my ASS off to get where I am with my business so I felt I deserved a treat. I keep my nice things nice and will use it religiously, so it was a no brainer to get something of quality. I didn't want to compromise with something less than, so I did my home work. Or so I thought.
Needless to say, I ended up with a stinky plastic smelling purchase that came from Hong Kong (NOT the promised bag with the original receipt from LV coming from Doris in Arkansas). It looked ok at first coming out of the bag, they hide it well. But then upon looking more, it was SO obvious. I felt like a fool, a bit duped and now have a chat going with the eBay folks on how to sort this out. Let me tell you guys, if it seems too good to be true (and cheap) it probably IS!
I've been doing hair for nearly 20 years. I love what I do and the best part is I get to help people feel better and more confident. As a Certified NBR Hair Extension Specialist, I can tell you that I have seen some "fake" NBR extensions out there (and i've fixed them).. SERIOUSLY. People will try to market it as NBR or it'll seem very similar. You as the consumer think you're getting a hell of a deal, meanwhile this person isn't even affiliated with the NBR brand or done any training with DKW Styling Salon out in Laguna Beach. (To learn more about NBR education click here). I'm NOT saying that other methods are bad per se, i'm simply saying if it's not the ORIGINAL NBR method and the stylist isn't certified or affiliated, it's probably not the real deal. Do your research....or you'll end up with a dent in your pocket book and something kinda stinky. Don't be a Nicole in this situation! LOL!
